Kathleen Atkins Wilson, a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, is an award winning artist with recognition throughout United States and Europe. Wilson received her formal art education in the Los Angeles area and has a unique style "Silhouette Expressions of Portraits in Black" which gave light to her success in the fine arts. In recognition of her gifted talent, Wilson has received numerous awards including the coveted Coretta Scott King Best Illustration Award and the African Studies Association Best Children Book Award. Wilson's popularity has placed her images in outstanding galleries and among fine art collectors. Wilson states: "I discovered through art I can bring images into the world that express my spiritual thoughts and impressions. I can use my art to teach about love, unity, peace and honor. I can praise God. I can bring hope and promise to the souls of my people through the light of color. I can honor our ancestors and thereby keep their memory alive.
